605 Running Co. to change downtown locations

Aug. 10, 2020

605 Running Co. is moving to a new storefront downtown.

It has been in business at 124 S. Phillips Ave. since 2014.

The running store will be moving to newly renovated Johnson Building at 225 E. 11th St.

“We will miss Phillips Avenue, but the pros far outweigh the cons for us,” co-owner Greg Koch said. “Our business has become a destination, especially during peak running seasons. For similar rent money, we will be able to provide better access to the business, service our customers faster and continue to grow our business in downtown Sioux Falls.”

There will be a moving sale held at the original location Aug. 27-28 during the weekend of the Sioux Falls Marathon, and the business will move to a temporary space in September while the new store is built out. That location hasn’t been finalized yet.

The new space at the Johnson Building will include a parking lot with direct access to the 605 Running Co. front door, along with the stock room, office and conference room all on the same level as the sales floor, plus alley access for shipping and receiving, and for use during events.

There also is “direct access to the bike trail, a larger variety of complementary businesses surrounding us and an increase in new residential activity near our business,” Koch added. “We get to be downtown and in a neighborhood at the same time.”

605 Running Co. joins a growing number of businesses in the Johnson Building, including shoe and apparel retailer Preach-es and 2nd Avenue Salon Suites, which is preparing its space.

Office tenants include law firm Evans Haigh & Arndt, Discovery Realty Group, Lenae Design and software company HireClick, which is building out its space.

There are two suites left — one 1,505-square-foot space on the main level and a 1,215-square-foot office upstairs.

The eclectic mix of tenant is “what we wanted, to be honest,” said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos., who is leasing the space. “There has been a great variety of interest, and we continue to show the remaining space.”
