Artists collaborate on South Dakota exhibition

Oct. 11, 2019

A new exhibition highlighting the beauty of South Dakota opens today at Piper Arts.

It’s a collaboration between Paul Schiller and Joshua Spies.

Spies is an international award-winning artist from Sioux Falls who has traveled worldwide creating a portfolio of drawings, paintings, charcoals and photography.

He has raised millions of dollars for conservation programs through his artwork and has used the beauty of his home state as a catalyst for his new artistic work.

Schiller began his career as a photojournalist and later co-founded Lawrence & Schiller and Five Star Call Centers with Craig Lawrence in Sioux Falls. He and his wife, Koni, created the business Acts of Nature to market their fine art nature image pieces. Schiller uses panoramic and macro photography to capture the state’s diversity and images that often go unnoticed.

The exhibition, “Prairie Majesty — An Art Exhibition of the Great Plains” will feature charcoal pieces and photography exploring the same subject matter. It will run until Nov. 30 at Piper Arts, 1825 S. Minnesota Ave. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 tonight.
