Avera updates cleanup efforts, closures

Sept. 12, 2019

Avera Health is in cleanup mode after Tuesday night’s tornadoes and severe weather, while some buildings remain closed.

Avera Behavioral Health Center is temporarily closed. Leaders said it could take months before the building returns to full operation.

“All patients are safe and many who are medically cleared have been discharged. Others are being cared for at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, and we are working with other state partners on appropriate placement of patients,” Avera said in a statement.

Patients who need behavioral health assessments should call the Avera Behavioral Health assessment line at 605-322-4065. Avera Medical Group University Psychiatry Associates and Avera Medical Group Midwest Psychiatric Medicine are closed and scheduled to reopen Monday. Phones will be answered Friday during regular business hours.

The Avera Heart Hospital is operational, and visitors can enter through the emergency department. The emergency department remains open, and all necessary surgeries are on schedule. North Central Heart Institute remained closed Thursday.

The Avera Sports Institute sustained significant damage and was closed Thursday.

The main Avera McKennan campus remains operational, and all clinics located on campus are open as usual.
