Bakery owner opens Hispanic market, plans to add restaurant

From staff reports

The owner of Manna Bakery has opened a grocery store that specializes in Hispanic goods.

M&CA Market is at 1038 N. Minnesota Ave. in a retail center that has a mix of ethnic and technology businesses.

The grocery opened in mid-March, said Esmeralda Cruz, an employee at the market and the bakery.

“Customers are starting to find us,” she said.

M&CA Market carries packaged goods, frozen foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and beverages, including cold beer. It has a dairy case and features baked goods from Manna, which is on East Sixth Street next to Whittier Middle School. There is an extensive selection of herbs and spices commonly used in Hispanic recipes.

The store has a section with booths, and there’s room for a kitchen. The owner hopes to add a restaurant in a few months, Cruz said. It would serve food similar to the Mexican and Central American offerings at Manna Bakery, which is carry-out only.

M&CA Market is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
