Barre fitness expands GreatLIFE’s options

This piece is presented by GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness.

From barre beginners to aspiring instructors, GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness has all sides of this huge fitness trend covered.

We caught up with GreatLIFE’s Katie Nordquist, a master trainer at PulsePointe Barre, for more on all the ways you can get involved.

A lot of people might not realize all the barre options GreatLIFE offers. Can you fill us in?

Barre classes are currently offered at four GreatLIFE locations: The Performance & Fitness Center at 69th and Southeastern, 39th and Phillips, EmBe and Woodlake.  Barre at Woodlake is held in the Hot Studio. Please reference the group fitness schedules for the most up-to-date information: joingreatlife.com/fitness-classes/.

What do you think is making barre so popular?

Barre has gained huge popularity in recent years because it’s fun! And, of course, because people are seeing amazing results. Barre class offers a high-energy, low-impact fitness option. Much of class is focused on glute and thigh toning, but we also incorporate arm strength training and Pilates to strengthen and sculpt the whole body. Using the PulsePointe Barre method, we weave together muscle-sculpting barre choreography with exhilarating cardio segments to define and challenge the body in a whole new way. We take barre to the next level by matching each segment with upbeat music to make class motivating.

If people are considering trying it out, what should they expect? Any ways to prepare?

Barre beginners should expect to feel challenged and energized after their first class. Whether you’re attending your first class or your 20th class, expect your muscles to shake a little and expect to get a little sweaty! Modifications will be offered, allowing students to customize their workout, and, of course, relax and stretch whenever you need to. No preparation is needed to attend.

You also have a class coming up to teach instructors how to become certified. Can you give us a preview?

Yes, I’m so excited to bring the very first PulsePointe Barre certification and Pilates mat workshop to Sioux Falls April 29 and 30. Whether you’re looking to improve your Pilates and barre technique, add to your instructor toolbox or dive into teaching for the first time, this certification will be a blast. You can also earn AFAA/ACE/NASM CEUs (continuing education units). Visit pulsepointebarre.com/upcoming-workshops to register.
