Business Insider: Sioux Falls is ‘yuppie’s paradise’

Aug. 30, 2018

Sioux Falls has edged out places such as San Francisco, Austin and Minneapolis to be named the best city for young professionals for the second year in a row.

The financial tech company SmartAsset released the rankings, which look at a city’s median gross rent, five-year change in median earnings, entertainment and arts establishments, and job diversity. It also took into account the number of people age 25 to 34 in the city, as well as the unemployment rate and the labor-force participation rate for that population.

Business Insider picked up the story, and called Sioux Falls “a yuppie’s paradise.”

“Sioux Falls boasts an unemployment rate among young adults of 1.49 percent,” it said. “What’s more, SmartAsset found that the median full-time employee in the city would have to dedicate just 23 percent of their earnings to pay the median rent in the city.”

Raleigh, N.C., ranked second and San Francisco was third.
