City approves additional roads, park projects including downtown ice ribbon
April 20,2021
Sioux Falls will be seeing many new park projects, expanded roads and a long-awaited downtown ice ribbon.
The City Council unanimously approved a package of projects, paid for with extra funds available thanks to federal help with pandemic-related expenses last year.
They include:
Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park West, a $4 million addition that will be part for in part with a $2 million donation from the Garry and Dianne Jacobson family. It will create a refrigerated skating loop and inclusive playground at Falls Park West. The plan is to design the project this year and build it next year so it can be ready by the 2022 holiday season.

Design for the next segment of the River Greenway, alongside the planned redevelopment at the Sioux Steel site, for $1 million.
Contribution toward the new Africa exhibit at the Great Plains Zoo, which includes lions and is largely planned to be privately funded, for $1.4 million.
Contribution toward Hayward Park master plan improvements including a spray park, for $2.25 million.
The funding package also includes $4 million for additional road development. Here’s a look at areas the city has identified for expansion and improvement.
