City building continues record pace

Sioux Falls appears positioned to set another record for building activity.

The value of construction permits through November is $663 million, up from $653.5 million a year ago and $648.5 million two years ago.

New residential construction is up almost $30 million year-over-year, with permits issued for 729 single-family houses compared with 679 last year.

Multifamily at 1,124 units is less than last year’s 1,444 units but ahead of the permits for 804 units issued in 2015.

New commercial construction at $238.4 million is behind last year’s $273.9 million.

Commercial additions and remodeling projects are at $161.4 million, which is ahead of last year’s $140.1 million.
