Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Staybridge Suites has started construction of a four-story, 102-room extended-stay hotel at 4210 W. 59th St. It will be a new prototype for the brand, which has another location at 2505 S. Carolyn Ave. The hotel is scheduled to open in May.

Play It Again Sports is closing after more than two decades in business. The store, which sells both new and used sporting goods, is at 3534 S. Western Ave. Franchise owner Dave Rust has started a going-out-of-business sale but hasn’t set a closing date.

A coffee-roasting business is moving to a downtown location and eventually plans to add an espresso bar. The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. is leasing space at 311 E. 12th St. When the new location opens sometime next year, it will include a retail space, so customers can drop in and buy coffee beans. Now, they’re available at local retailers. The “end game” plan is to have a cafe, co-founder Corey Gerlach said.

Look’s Marketplace has opened in the former Callaway’s space at 500 E. 69th St. The new location is an expansion of Look’s Market offerings, adding a bakery, brewery and restaurants to the meat counter and grocery items.

Myers’ Deli & More has remodeled to add an event space to the restaurant on the first floor of The Carpenter Building at 221 S. Phillips Ave. Owner Dan Myers, who also operates Myers’ Elite Catering, is offering the area for parties, special dinners and meetings.

A new business offering a form of pain relief called microcurrent therapy has opened. Cory and Emma Harm own Arete Wellness, which offers the painless, non-invasive, non-chemical therapy designed to relieve pain through the application of a small electrical current to energy pathways of the body. It shares space with Emma Harm Ink in Sola Salon Studios at Lake Lorraine.

David Jones Fashions is adding a second location. The new men’s apparel store will be in The Empire Mall and also feature a large section for wedding apparel. It’s expected to open before Thanksgiving.

The new coffee shop and bakery in Harrisburg’s 518 Marketplace offers everything from espresso drinks and cupcakes to sandwiches and soup. Sassy Cakes & Coffee opened earlier this month in the marketplace at 518 N. Cliff Ave. Ashly Nordmeyer moved her gourmet cupcake business from Pipestone, Minn., to Harrisburg and has expanded her offerings.

A merger between Sanford Health and UnityPoint Health failed just days before it was set to be finalized. It came down to a final vote by the board of directors of each system, and on Nov. 11, members of Des Moines-based UnityPoint voted 13-6 against merging.

Ideal Wedding & Events is building a 13,000-square-foot headquarters at the Bakker Landing development near the Tea exit on Interstate 29. While Ideal is waiting for its building to be done late this year, it has moved from its home on Shirley Avenue to a temporary location at 2707 S. Carolyn Ave.

Dakota Seafood Co. has closed its location at The Bridges at 57th and will start selling its products inside Pomegranate Market. Dakota Seafood will continue to offer a line of fresh fish and seafood that’s flown in daily. It’s expected to be open in the deli area this week.

The holiday pop-up shop Art Moms is back for a 16th season with merchandise from a record number of makers. Fifty makers from a four-state region have work for sale inside the store at 3101 W. 41st St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following dates: Nov. 20-23, Nov. 29-30, Dec. 4-7 and Dec. 11-21.

HotSpring Spas has opened in its new location at 1605 W. 41st St. The business more than doubled the size of its showroom with the move from a retail center at 57th and Louise. With the additional space, owners Rachael and Tom Junck have added swim spas and saunas.

WilLiquors opened its 26,000-square-foot wine, beer and spirits store today at 3625 W. Avera Drive, near 69th and Louise. It’s open daily and also features a walk-in humidor for cigars and a video lottery casino that serves beer and wine, so customers can have a drink while they shop too.

After more than two decades downtown, the three companies that fall under the Bender umbrella are moving south. The new office for Bender Commercial Real Estate Services, Bender Midwest Properties and Bender Realtors will be a standalone office building at 305 W. 57th St., just east of Minnesota Avenue. The staff is expected to make the move from 122 S. Phillips Ave. in December.
