Convenience store offerings from DoorDash coming to Sioux Falls

July 27, 2022

DoorDash Essentials, which does business as DashMart, is coming to Sioux Falls.

It’s a concept launched through DoorDash in 2020 to deliver the kinds of items you find in a convenience store — but through an online ordering and delivery platform.

“DashMart is a new type of convenience store, offering both household essentials and local restaurant favorites to our customers’ doorsteps,” the company said in announcing the concept in 2020.

“On DashMart, you’ll find thousands of convenience, grocery and restaurant items, from ice cream and chips, to cough medicine and dog food, to spice rubs and packaged desserts from the local restaurants you love on DoorDash. DashMart stores are owned, operated and curated by DoorDash.”

In Sioux Falls, the fulfillment center will be in a nearly 11,000-square-foot building at 1220 S. Minnesota Ave.

“We’ve been working on the deal for a long time,” said Scott Blount of Lloyd Cos., who brokered the deal to lease the space. “They plan on renovating the interior of the building and turning it into a DoorDash Essentials distribution center.”

The building previously was Unlimited Electronic Lifestyles and was part showroom, part warehouse.

“They felt that location was the center of town, so you have access to a lot of different directions to do DoorDash,” Blount said.

“They’re excited about opening up in the Sioux Falls market. Our market size has grown to the point DoorDash felt it would be very compatible to put one of these distribution centers here.”

The plan is to build out the space in the next couple of months and open this fall, he said.
