Development foundation launches national search for next leader

March 1, 2108

The Sioux Falls Development Foundation has started a national search for its next president and CEO.

The leader will replace Slater Barr, who left in late 2017 after almost 10 years.

Board chair Bob Thimjon will lead an 11-member search committee that will work with national search firm Waverly Partners to find candidates.

Waverly Partners is the same firm used to find Jason Ball, the president of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We have developed the position summary to reflect the experience and leadership characteristics of our preferred candidate,” Thimjon said. “Our committee is open to executives with backgrounds in economic development, chamber of commerce, real estate development and other types of nonprofits or related economic development leadership experience with a commitment to the Sioux Falls regional community.”

The Sioux Falls Development Foundation was created in 1954 to coordinate economic development activities in the Sioux Falls area, including business attraction and retention, job and workforce growth, and the availability of land for development. The organization operates the Sioux Empire Development Parks, home to more than 145 businesses that employ almost 13,000 people and has created Foundation Park, an 800-acre new industrial park.
