Dow Rummel Village announces CEO succession plan

Feb. 13, 2023

A new CEO has been named to replace Darla Van Rosendale, who is retiring this spring after 25 years at Dow Rummel Village.

Josh Hofmeyer will succeed Van Rosendale, effective April 28.

“Josh was selected from a large group of highly qualified candidates for his broad, high-level experience and leadership in the senior living industry,” board chair Charisse Oland said in a statement.

Hofmeyer’s career has included roles as an administrator and in developing telemedicine services for the long-term care industry. He most recently served as manager of senior care services for Avel eCare.

“Josh is genuinely centered in spirituality and grounded in senior living consistent with the Dow Rummel mission and culture,” Oland said. “His incredible career journey as a visionary for innovative senior living of the future makes him the right person at the right time for this organization. We couldn’t be more fortunate than to have him guiding us to new heights in providing the highest-quality senior living experience.”

His new role will start March 20 to allow for a transition with Van Rosendale.

“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to be the next CEO at Dow Rummel Village, the leading senior living campus in and around Sioux Falls,” Hofmeyer said. “The mission and values of Dow Rummel fit well within my experience and my own personal vision of health care. I believe with my experience for several years in the senior care industry this will be a great opportunity for us to all work together. I am looking forward to starting and getting to know the staff, residents, families and community on a larger scale in the coming weeks.”

During her career, Van Rosendale led the team to a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a bronze quality award from the American Health Care Association and several AHCA quality initiative awards. During her tenure, the campus grew by 200 percent and added four new services for residents as the nursing home was certified as a Medicare and Medicaid facility.

“We would not be where we are as a successful, leading independent senior living organization in the state of South Dakota without the leadership of Darla VanRosendale,” the board said. “We thank her for her incredible leadership over the past 25 years, serving 19 years as CEO and six years as CFO.”
