Downtown crowns Pork Showdown champion

Oct. 4, 2022

Give another win to Chef Lance White.

Chef Lance’s on Phillips is the winner of the second annual Downtown Pork Showdown, a competition among restaurants to create the most popular pork dish.

Diners rated restaurants based on best use of pork, flavor, tenderness, presentation and customer service.

Chef Lance’s, 431 N. Phillips Ave., served bourbon-braised baby back pork ribs with smoked cherry barbecue sauce on a bed of white cheddar and fresh herb grits.

The competition was sponsored by Smithfield Foods and organized by Downtown Sioux Falls Inc.

It’s the second consecutive Downtown Pork Showdown win for White, who took the top prize last year for a pulled pork Wellington. He also took home the win for the Downtown Burger Battle earlier this year.

“Winning two years in a row means so much more because it tells me we don’t just serve good food some of the time … but we serve good food all of the time,” White said. “Something our whole team can be very proud of.”

In second place was R Wine Bar & Kitchen with the Guanciale Tortellini and The Treasury with the Korean Pig Wing following in third place.

The Downtown Sioux Falls Digital Passport App reported 1,041 votes from 11,365 users.
