Family Dollar’s newest store in Sioux Falls has opened.

The discount store is at 2511 S. Minnesota Ave., next to Bagel Boy in the former Lamps & Shades Lighting Gallery space, which has been vacant since 2016.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

“We are a neighborhood convenience store with over 8,000 items, including food, freezer/cooler, health and beauty products, cleaning supplies, apparel, home decor, pet supplies, paper products and party supplies, just to name a few,” said Rick Guy, a district manager from Omaha who’s in Sioux Falls to get the store operating.

A grand-opening sale runs through Sunday. Customers can enter to win a drawing for gift cards and prize baskets through Saturday. Also that day, the first 50 customers will receive a $5 gift card and a shopping bag.

Family Dollar is leasing the space, which is more than 10,000 square feet, from building owner Sercl Family LLC.

In March, the company announced it would close almost 400 locations this year as part of a “store optimization effort.” Stores on North Kiwanis Avenue and in Dell Rapids closed.
