When GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness came to Sioux Falls, its leaders pictured families like the one you’re about to meet spending time together while being active.

The idea of unlimited golf and fitness appealed to Phil DeGroot, an ag banker, and his wife, Jen, a nurse practitioner.

“We joined about four years ago because of all the different gyms and golf courses,” he said. “We have a family pass, so our kids can come with us.”

Their kids – ages 10, 9 and 6 – often come with them to the gym. Their 6-year-old has fun at the Performance Center’s child care activities, while their two older kids head for the gym.

“My son really likes basketball and comes with almost every time we go to the gym,” DeGroot said. “We also really like swimming during the open swim at Woodlake and will meet up with other family and friends who have GreatLIFE memberships for the kids to swim together. It’s a great way to get out of the house, especially during the winter.”

He and his wife work out weekly with trainer Brendan Harberts at GreatLIFE’s East 10th Street location.

“And then we utilize the workouts he provides for the rest of the week,” DeGroot said. “I think my wife and I both have become healthier and more physically fit since joining GreatLIFE and working out with Brendan.”

He also anticipates golfing as a family as the kids get older.

“I would tell anyone considering a GreatLIFE membership to go for it,” he said. “They have great facilities and great locations all around Sioux Falls, and they’re always trying to improve their facilities as well and make sure they are updated.”
