Fareway to open Harrisburg store this week

Harrisburg officially has a grocery store.

The long-awaited retailer comes in the form of a Fareway store opening Wednesday, Dec. 6.

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

The 19,000-square-foot store is located on the northeast side of Cliff Avenue and Willow Street. It includes a a fresh-meat department, produce and carryout service.

It’s the third Fareway in the Sioux Falls area.

“Harrisburg residents have been without a local grocery store for the past several decades, so the opening of Fareway is highly anticipated and a much-needed addition to our local community,” said Adrienne McKeown, president of the Harrisburg Economic Development Corporation.

“From an economic development perspective, we are grateful for what Fareway will bring to our economy, including new jobs and sales tax revenue, and from a busy mom’s perspective, I am grateful that I no longer have to trek back into Sioux Falls when I forget to buy a necessary ingredient for dinner. The arrival of Fareway is another step in making Harrisburg a great place to live, work and do business.”

Hours will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
