Finance leader finds fit with online construction lender

Jan. 15, 2019

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Korey Kraayenbrink, assistant vice president at online construction lender Builder Finance.

Name: Korey Kraayenbrink

Age: 31

Hometown: Sioux Center, Iowa

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

College and opportunity!

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

The city itself. Sioux Falls has experienced tremendous growth and development just in the past 10 years; it is quite amazing. The people are great. Sioux Falls has the feel of a small town while still having the amenities and opportunities of a bigger city. It is the perfect place to live and work.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

No two days are the same. Builder Finance Inc. currently lends in 40-plus states, and we are growing. Having exposure to so many housing markets and being able to help companies grow their business through our lending platform can be incredibly rewarding.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I started working at Wells Fargo part time during college and worked in several roles there prior to finding a role with Builder Finance Inc. about 3 1/2 years ago.

Describe Builder Finance in three words.

Creative – we strive to find new and innovative ways to help our customers. Informed – always researching our business and market trends to best serve our customers. Fun – it is a great place to work!

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

Two great organizations in this city: The Banquet and Kids Against Hunger. The Banquet provides a hot meal to those in need locally, and Kids Against Hunger provides prepackaged meals — packed here in Sioux Falls — and sent globally to those in need.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Poppo’s Taqueria. If we are thinking a little bigger, I think it would be great to see a Fortune 500 company open an operation center in Sioux Falls. Bringing a big name and big jobs would help further the growth of this great city.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Continuing my career with Builder Finance in Sioux Falls. I consider myself very fortunate to be working for a growing company that has so much to offer. Excited to see what the next five years brings.
