Financial consultant came for college, stayed for family

Nov. 20, 2018

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Cameron Ostrom, a financial consultant at Security National Bank of South Dakota.

Name: Cameron Ostrom

Age: 26

Hometown: Buffalo, Wyo.

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

Out of high school, I was looking to get a high-quality education with an opportunity to play football for a successful program. I found both at the University of Sioux Falls and jumped at the opportunity to become a Cougar!

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

After getting married, my wife and I realized that Sioux Falls was the perfect place to raise a family. We love our local church and the people there; we live in a safe, family-friendly neighborhood; and the economy has provided us great opportunities to grow in our careers.

What’s the best part about your job?

The relationships between myself and my clients as well as the employees of the bank. I am able to interact with individuals from all sorts of backgrounds and with a variety of needs. Providing financial advice gives me an avenue to build longstanding, trusting relationships to people I’d otherwise never get in front of, and that’s the best part about my job.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I really enjoyed my business classes at the University of Sioux Falls. When I began my job search, I didn’t know what I would do with my degree, but I eventually developed a real appetite for finance. I love the challenge that this industry provides and that people are always looking for someone that is trustworthy to help answer their questions. My goal is to be my clients’ most trusted adviser.

Describe Security National Bank in three words.

Trustworthy, genuine and driven.

What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?

I really love working with kids. I’ve helped coach a flag football team for the past few years with FCA, and that has been a wonderful experience.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls?

Chick-fil-A.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Here at Security National Bank with a growing customer base as I continue to learn and develop to be the best adviser I can be. My family will be growing and heavily involved in the community, meeting new people and building lifelong relationships.
