Fire shuts down east-side restaurant

Sept. 28, 2022

A longtime east-side restaurant is closed indefinitely after a fire today.

“Unfortunately, we had a small fire early this morning in the back part of Cherry Creek Grill,” the restaurant posted on social media. “Due to extensive smoke damage, Cherry Creek Grill will be closed indefinitely. Please check back here for future updates, sorry for the inconvenience.”

Firetrucks from five stations responded to the fire, which was reported at 6:30 a.m., said Battalion Chief Garett Dulaney of Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.

Firefighters reported smoke and flames on arrival, and the fire in the kitchen area was extinguished quickly, Dulaney said. Crews remained on-site for a couple of hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Cherry Creek Grill at 3104 E. 26th St. opened in 1991 and was purchased by Charlie and Judy Kneip in 1999, according to the restaurant’s website.

The business is directing customers to its west-side location, TC’s Referee.
