Flower shop opens in Hartford

Feb. 6, 2019

Hartford’s first full-service flower shop is open just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Backdoor Garden is in the historic Mundt Building in downtown Hartford. Merchandise includes fresh flowers, flower arrangements and balloons.

Owner Rickie Kunzweiler will be designing an indoor garden in the space, including fresh flower arrangements, silk arrangements, plants, garden items, gifts and decor. She also designs for weddings and special events.

The store is across the street from Buffalo Ridge Brewing, which opened late last year.

“Momentum is building downtown, and we foresee that to continue building,” said Jesse Fonkert, director of the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce and Hartford Area Development Foundation. “A flower shop adds one more destination for Hartford and Sioux Falls-area folks to visit.”

A grand opening for Backdoor Garden is planned for March, when the store also will hold a special class for students going to prom in April to order arrangements.
