Former Sanford executive to lead health care consulting firm

April 1, 2021

Former Sanford Health executive Nate White has been named president of a health care consulting firm.

White will lead Arizona-based Newpoint Healthcare Advisors, a national consulting firm exclusively advising the health care industry.

White spent 15 years at Sanford Health, most recently as chief operating officer and president of the Fargo market since 2017. He was to return to Sioux Falls in late 2019 in a corporate leadership role, but that transition never occurred.

In his new role, White will lead Newpoint’s strategy practice, including investment and merger and acquisition strategy, operations and change management, clinical quality and patient experience.

“Nate understands what it takes to elevate a health system to the next level and has the knowledge, expertise and leadership aptitude to guide organizations through periods of growth and change,” Newpoint chairman Joseph Lupica said in a statement.

“His background in law and health system operations supports the valuable and authoritative perspective he offers our clients across the country. We are extremely pleased to welcome him as a member of our executive team.”

White joined Sanford Health in 2005 as associate general counsel. He became chief operating officer in 2013 and president of the Fargo market in 2017.

Newpoint said his “many accomplishments include leading post-merger management team restructuring, implementing financial turnaround strategies that reduced operating expenses by more than $100 million, and designing new payment models and clinical structures to drive improved revenue and better outcomes.”

“We grew Sanford to more than $6.5 billion in revenue by the time I departed, relying on the expertise of our leadership team as well as consultants like Newpoint,” White said.

“I’m looking forward to sharing my perspective with hospital and health system leaders who are facing the same challenges and opportunities I once did. I am honored to join Newpoint and eager to begin this new chapter.”

White earned his undergraduate degree from Augustana University and his law degree from the University of Kansas. He began his career as an attorney with WilmerHale, an international law firm based in Washington, D.C.
