Fun ride: Manager finds fit guiding growing car wash

Aug. 6, 2019

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Andrea Vetos, regional manager with Silverstar Car Wash.

Name: Andrea Vetos

Age: 26

Hometown: Sioux City

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

After I graduated from USD, my now-husband and I knew we didn’t want to move back to Sioux City. I was working for a bank and was able to get a job at one of their branches in Sioux Falls, so we made the move up here.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

Sioux Falls is a beautiful, growing city, and it seems like there is always something exciting going on, whether it’s one of the unique attractions, a new business coming to town or a fun event that is happening.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

It’s hard to pick just one, so I’m going to give two: I love that day is different, and I get to have my hand in a huge variety of different things. On any given day, I could be working on designing some marketing materials, developing training programs, working in the wash bay alongside our front-line team members or helping dig into an equipment maintenance project so I can learn the mechanical side of the business! My job never fails to keep my on my toes.

I’ve also been lucky enough to become a part of a group of car wash leaders from across the country who meet up twice a year to collaborate with the goal to better each other’s operations and the industry as a whole. The people in this group have truly become friends, and we communicate daily about car wash and non-car wash happenings. Being involved with this fantastic group of people pushes me to constantly improve myself and our company!

How did you get connected to your industry?

I was working a desk job at a bank that I didn’t love, so I was applying for a variety of different jobs, looking for the right fit. I saw a job posting with Silverstar Car Wash that caught my eye, so I applied, and when I interviewed with the owners, I knew it was an organization I wanted to be a part of. I never expected to enjoy the car wash industry as much as I do!

Describe Silverstar Car Wash in three words.

Quality. Innovative. Fun.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

One of my favorite things we do at Silverstar is giving free washes to different groups throughout the year. So far in 2019, we’ve offered free wash days to veterans, active-duty military personnel and Gold Star Families; teachers and school employees; and nurses. It’s such a fun way for us to give back to these groups through the job we do every day!

Additionally, my involvement in the EmBe Women’s Leadership Program this year has really opened my eyes on all the different ways that I can personally get involved in the community. I’m really looking forward to digging in deeper and becoming more involved in some of the great organizations we have in Sioux Falls.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

I am a die-hard Chick-Fil-A fan, and I’m patiently waiting for them to come to Sioux Falls.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I’m really looking forward to seeing how Silverstar will grow in the next five years, and I know that will allow me the opportunity to grow along with it. I don’t know what the next five years will look like, but I know it’s going to be a fun ride!
