Giving Back for October
From staff reports
Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our community. Here’s who gave back in October.
Walmart Foundation
The Walmart Foundation has donated $138,000 to Feeding South Dakota. The State Giving grant will be used to help buy a semi-truck to increase food delivery across central and western South Dakota.
9Round Kickbox Fitness
9Round Kickbox Fitness has raised $2,710.87 to advance breast cancer treatment and laboratory research. The fitness center’s staff and members participated in the Breast Cancer Kick-A-Thon on Oct. 12, collecting 1-cent donations for every kick. Avera Breast Center and the Edith Sanford Breast Health Institute shared the funds.
GreatLIFE Cares Foundation
A fund drive during the LPGA Symetra Tour Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge tournament raised $91,000 to help with recovery from Hurricane Harvey in Texas. The GreatLIFE Cares Foundation matched pledges based on players’ performance. The money will go to the Houston Relief Fund and local first responders from Team Rubicon who helped in the recovery efforts. Great Western Bank, Luxury Auto Mall and GreatLIFE locations helped collect pledges.
MetaBank
MetaBank donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey relief. This amount covers the cost to deploy three volunteers on two-week deployments to the affected areas. Almost 16,000 trained disaster workers were mobilized for relief efforts as a result of these storms.
