Good Samaritan Society, Sanford Health to explore partnerships

The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society and Sanford Health are entering discussions to explore opportunities to work together.

The announcement came in a news release issued Monday afternoon by Sanford Health. Leadership from both organizations said discussions are in an early phase and no formal timeline has been established.

“The health care landscape across the nation continues to evolve, so it’s only natural for industry leaders to talk about potential opportunities and partnerships,” said Kelby Krabbenhoft, president and CEO of Sanford Health. “The prospect of bringing together our organizations represents a historic opportunity to create something significant with exceptional improvements in health care that spans the entire spectrum of life.”

Already, the two health care organizations have collaborated in North Dakota by creating Miller Pointe, a new 120-bed rehabilitation and skilled care center in Mandan.

“Both organizations have a history of working together to create integrated health care delivery and providing specific services to seniors,” said David Horazdovsky, president and CEO of the Good Samaritan Society. “This exploration is a natural progression in how two industry leaders will address the significant challenges in meeting the needs of those we serve. Sanford and the society have complementary services, creating the ability to generate synergies and build on each other’s reputation with greater geographic reach and compelling pursuits.”

Both organizations are headquartered in Sioux Falls. Sanford Health operates in nine states while the Good Samaritan Society has a presence in 24 states.

Good Samaritan laid off more than 100 of the employees at its national campus in March as part of a restructuring.
