Hobby Lobby prepares for weekend move, reopening

By Jodi Schwan

Hobby Lobby opens in its new Lake Lorraine location next week. But first, a big move must be coordinated.

The store at 1401 W. 41st will close at 8 p.m. Sept. 30 and reopen at 9 a.m. Oct. 2 in the new space.

“Each department has a job to do, and they are each focused on their part of the job,” said Bob Miller, communications coordinator.

“Relocating a store and setting up a new store is a very complicated process, but our people have down to a science.”

Sioux Falls is the 11th relocation for Hobby Lobby this year. More than 50 new stores have opened since Jan. 1.

“The folks who oversee the nuts and bolts of opening a new store are experienced, hard-working, dedicated and single-minded,” Miller said.

Hobby Lobby also is bringing in about 30 people from other locations to help with the move, he said.

There won’t be any special sales to reduce inventory at the old location. All remaining merchandise will be moved.

Hobby Lobby opened in Sioux Falls at that location in 1997. The building is for lease with Van Buskirk Cos. and can be divided into smaller retail space.
