The first Walk to End Epilepsy in South Dakota was a huge success, and more opportunities to give back through fitness are coming.

Saturday’s walk at the GreatLIFE Performance Center raised more than $46,000 to help start South Dakota’s new chapter of the national Epilepsy Foundation.

The state chapter will provide support and resources to those affected by epilepsy, the fourth most common neurological disease, along with seizure safety programs in schools statewide.

“We were so happy with the response to this event and honored to be able to host it,” said Nick Ovenden, GreatLIFE’s president. “Giving back to our communities is a huge part of what GreatLIFE is all about, and we’re hoping for a summer of strong support with the events we have to come.”

Here are the next ways you can give back to important causes through GreatLIFE:

Lift for a Cause

GreatLIFE’s annual powerlifting meet has quickly become a Sioux Falls favorite, and it’s back again Aug. 3 at GreatLIFE’s Performance Center.

The cost is $30 per athlete, and there will be three events performed: bench lift, squats and deadlift. Athletes can participate in as many as they would like.

The event benefits Special Olympics South Dakota.

Registration closes July 12. Stop in any GreatLIFE gym to register, or email [email protected].

Warrior Trail Run

Get ready for a memorable 5K when the Warrior Trail Run returns Sept. 21 at Inspiration Hills near Inwood, Iowa.

It’s 3 miles of fun around crazy obstacles. There will be three runs, including one for kids, a competitive run and an open/fun run.

Money raised at this event benefits Inspiration Hills camp scholarships and the GreatLIFE Cares Foundation, which gives to community causes all year long.
