Jacky’s to fill former Fuddruckers

April 20, 2023

Jacky’s Restaurant will open its fourth Sioux Falls location — this one on West 41st Street.

The Guatemalan restaurant is leasing the former Fuddruckers in the Park Place retail center at 3101 W. 41st St.

The 5,150-square foot space is a similar size to Jacky’s location on East 10th Street and can hold nearly 190 diners.

Jacky’s Express Guatemalan Style Restaurant, however, will feature an express-style menu similar to Jacky’s Burrito Express on West 12th Street.

“It’s going to be a good option for people who have a short amount of time for lunch and they need to get back to work,” said Miguel Bosque, general manager of the East 10th Street location.  “They can order, sit down, we deliver the food, they eat, and they can go.”

The smaller menu will include burritos, tacos and chimichangas — “easy fast meals,” Bosque said. The restaurant will apply for a beer and wine license.

Jacky’s Express likely will have hours of 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday.

“We will offer a breakfast menu there. The idea is like breakfast from her country,” he said of owner Jacky Vanloh, who opened her first restaurant in Sioux Falls in 2009. “A lot of scrambled eggs with refried beans, fried plantains, authentic Guatemalan.” A few Tex-Mex breakfast offerings will include steak and chicken.

Vanloh plans to introduce a special dish at Jacky’s Express. Her seasoned roast chicken will come with charro beans, Guatemalan fried rice, fried yucca and fresh veggies.

The Empire Mall location will remain open.

“For now, that’s the plan,” Bosque said. “We have a long-term plan we are working on.” Jacky’s still owns the building on North Cliff Avenue where she operated a quick-serve restaurant until it closed during the pandemic. “We want to go back to business (across Sioux Falls) and bring our amazing food to the people who love us.”

Vanloh hopes to open the 41st Street restaurant in July, Bosque said.

“It will depend on the contractors. We’re waiting for them to update the inside. We don’t want it to look like Fuddruckers.”

The space came available late last year when Fuddruckers closed after 30 years in business.

“We had several interested restaurants reach out immediately,” said Autumn Kaufhold of Van Buskirk Cos., who brokered the deal. “The space did not sit long before leasing conversations ignited.”

With nearly 40,000 vehicles per day, the traffic was a draw, she said.

“High-profile locations on 41st Street do not come available often,” Kaufhold added. “Restaurants want to be near other successful retailers and restaurants. This location is right in the middle of the retail honey pot.”

Multiple potential restaurant users looked at the space within weeks after Fuddruckers closed, including Jacky’s, she said.

“We had multiple offers on the space and were really thrilled to be able to put a deal together with Jacky’s,” Kaufhold said. “They have been incredibly successful in Sioux Falls, and we’re excited to see that success continue on West 41st Street.”
