Kansas-based chicken restaurant picks west-side site for city’s first location

A Kansas-based chicken restaurant has found land for its first location in Sioux Falls.
Chick N Max franchisee Brad Reinke of Pierre bought property for the restaurant at Lake Lorraine on the city’s west side, a spokesman for the chain said. The stand-alone restaurant with a seating area and drive-thru will be next to the Hyatt Place hotel.
The chain announced in November 2021 that Reinke and his son, Max, “Bubba,” were planning to have three locations in the city within five years.
The Reinkes will receive construction bids for the first site this week, and work is expected to begin in the fall, the spokesman said. The restaurant likely would open in the first quarter of next year.
Chick N Max is touted as the home of “The Better Chicken Sandwich.” It specializes in almond wood-smoked chicken and wings, chef-crafted sandwiches and fried tenders.
Chick N Max’s menu includes choices such as the Maple Bacon Sandwich, featuring pulled smoked chicken, chopped bacon, a drizzle of maple syrup, cheddar cheese and mayonnaise on a potato bun; or the Sweet & Spicy Sandwich, which includes lightly breaded, crisp chicken tenders, fried jalapeno pepper strips, cucumber, tomato, and sweet and spicy sauce on a brioche bun.
In addition, Chick N Max serves wings, leg quarters, breast quarters and half-chickens.
Guests can complete their meal with a range of 10 homestyle sides, including fries, onion rings, mac-and-cheese, mashed potatoes and smoked white beans, and 11 sauces that are made daily.
Chick N Max has three restaurants in Wichita, with a fourth under construction. It launched franchise opportunities last year and since then also has signed agreements for three restaurants in Houston and 25 locations across parts of Kansas.
The 2,400-square-foot restaurant in Sioux Falls will be on the southwest corner of Lake Shore Boulevard and Lorraine Place, on the north side of the development’s lake.
The lot has been used recently as a staging site for The Blu on Lorraine, a six-story apartment building that’s being built next door.
