Longtime doughnut shop has closed

April 8, 2022

Daylight Donuts has closed.

The business at 333 S. Minnesota Ave. appears to have shut down about a month ago, according to customer reports.

A phone number is no longer in operation.

The Daylight Donut Flour Co. LLC confirmed the closure. Its presence in Sioux Falls dates back to 1987, although there had been a doughnut shop there for longer than that. The most current licensees had been in operation since 2009.

All shops are independently owned and operated, with licensing agreements that require using Daylight mixes exclusively.

The Sioux Falls market is now available for a new licensee, the company said. The closest location is in Mitchell.

Daylight has nearly 1,000 retail outlets in 28 states.

The retail space will be available to lease, according to property owner Matt Luke of Luke Properties LLC.

It’s 1,200 square feet on the main level and another 1,200 unfinished below for storage or potential office.

“It was in pretty rough condition, so we’re gutting the whole thing, and once we get it to the point where it’s kind of a nice, clean shell, then we’re going to list it, but it is available,” said Luke, who bought the building from the original owner about four years ago.

“I’m hoping we can get something that adds to downtown.”
