A Black Hills-based granite and quartz countertop business is opening two showrooms in Sioux Falls next month.
Moda Stone will be at 5422 E. Arrowhead Parkway and 1507 E. 69th St. It also will have a shop in Sioux Falls, where most of the fabrication work will be done, said Jason Roy, sales director. Some pieces will be made at the main shop in Rapid City.
Moda Stone is a fourth-generation business in Rapid City and Spearfish that’s operated by the Rausch family and dates back to the early 1930s. Rausch Monuments, now called Life Song Memorials, started in the 1960s and expanded into countertops with Moda Stone in the 1990s, Roy said.
“Sioux Falls is a rapidly growing market, and we are excited to be part of that,” he said.
The 3,700-square-foot showroom on 69th Street east of Cliff Avenue will open the week of July 9. It will feature full slabs of stone inside. “It also will have several mini kitchens to show the different styles you can do in your home,” Roy said.
The Arrowhead showroom, which will be in the same retail center as Hu-Hot Mongolian Grill, will open the week of July 23. It will be less than half the size, so instead of full slabs there will be large displays of stone, he said.
A staff of about a dozen will handle sales, production, installation and customer service, Roy said. Moda Stone does free on-site visits and offers a 25-year warranty on countertops it installs. It doesn’t use subcontractors to do the work.
“We do remodeling and new construction,” Roy said. “We’ll do any size project; it doesn’t matter. Big or small we want them all.”
Crews will work in about a 150-mile radius of Sioux Falls, so that will stretch into Minnesota and Iowa, he said.
In addition to kitchen and bath countertops, Moda Stone does some tile work.
“We source all the stone,” Roy said of the countertop pieces. “Most countertop stone comes from Brazil, Africa and India. … Moda Stone has our own colors that we stock.”
The showrooms will have grand-opening celebrations in August.
