The shelves are nearly set and staff is in place for the new downtown Lewis Drug, which opens Thursday at 10th Street and Phillips Avenue.

“I think it’s coming together really well,” said Bob Meyer, Lewis senior vice president of merchandise and marketing. “I think the consumer will be really excited when they see it.”

The focus will be on convenience and serving the downtown community, he said.

“Our role is to be that convenient stop for health care needs and everyday essentials, with some unique pick-up-and-go opportunities in the morning or at lunch or on your way home from work,”  he said. “We’ve told our managers to keep their ears and eyes open and listen to what the consumer wants, and we’ll try to accommodate where we can.”

There will be an emphasis on local relationships, including doughnuts and coffee from Flyboy Donuts and grab-and-go meals from Eat Fit Go. Ice cream will include Stensland Family Farms and SDSU.

A partnership with Sanford Health will offer a clinic with acute care services.

Hours are:

Store: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Pharmacy: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday.

“There’s a lot of foot traffic, especially during the summer, and I think we’d be missing out by not being open daily,” Meyer said. “We’ll keep tabs on it, but if anything we might have to extend our hours.”

PAve will open its expanded patio space upstairs on Tuesday and have a grand-opening event Thursday night.

Lewis and Sanford plan to hold a ribbon-cutting and open house Sept. 7.
