Lewis Drug begins a carefully choreographed move this week from its store at 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue to its new location a few blocks north.

Opening day is set for Dec. 13 at 8 a.m.

“So we’ll close Tuesday night, crews will come in and move all the register systems, postal and pharmacy equipment, so by 8 a.m. hopefully Wednesday morning we’re set up and ready to go,” marketing director Bob Meyer said.

The new store at 37th Street and Minnesota Avenue is smaller than the old one but designed to be easier to navigate.

Finishes are more modern, with cooler tones and more light.

“We’re going for a fresh, contemporary look,” CEO Mark Griffin said, pointing out features like a service counter next to the door with an aisle of mail-related products on it. Customers can park, pick out some merchandise, check out and mail a package without having to navigate much of the store.

“Society today doesn’t wait,” Griffin said. “It doesn’t matter what you’re talking about. It’s speed of delivery, and that’s what we’re trying to provide here.”

A clearly defined health and beauty section also stands out at the front of the store, which has been reconfigured from the old location.

“It’s more convenient for the consumer and helps with our internal logistics to have more staff to serve guests on the sales floor,” Meyer said.

Hours will be the same as the former location: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily with adjusted hours for the pharmacy.
