A new luxury salon suites business plans to open in a renovated downtown building that has roots in the salon industry.

The former Stewart’s Hair School building, now the Johnson Building, will include 2nd Avenue Salon Suites, which is leasing a space on the ground floor.

Sioux Falls native Megan Hall has owned her own suite for the past 10 years, specializing in custom, hand-painted hair coloring and beaded extensions as well as men and women’s haircuts. She attended Stewart’s and was part of one of the last classes to graduate from the original downtown location.

When one of her friends approached her with the idea of bringing salon suites to the newly renovated Johnson Building on the southwest corner of 11th Street and Second Avenue, it was an opportunity she knew she couldn’t pass up.

“It feels good to be able to bring hair back into that building,” Hall said.

“The energy in the building was everything to me. The location was perfect because there is so much parking offered, and I’d been thinking about trying to do something like this downtown for a while.”

The salon will have 14 suites. The eight exterior suites will be reserved specifically for hair, but the remaining interior suites will offer a variety of specialized beauty services.

“I hope for it to be a specialized, one-stop-shop for all things beauty,” Hall said. 

“You can do hair, I have a gal right now that I am talking to that does mani-pedis, and I am hoping for eyelashes, nails, cosmetic tattooing, injectables, massages and custom spray tans.”

Artists will get the opportunity to design their own spaces and make them unique to their individual brands.

Almost all of the salon suites are full, but a few of the interior suites are still open.

“I’m still looking for a good massage therapist and a good eyelash extension person,” she said. 

“I’m looking for those people that are just specialized in what they do.”

The plan for opening is the first week of September, with a grand opening to follow at the end of the month.

Other ground-floor tenants will include Preach-es, an apparel and shoe store, and Discovery Realty Group.
