Mixed-use development planned near 85th & Minnesota

April 6, 2023

A new mixed-use project is planned on some of the last remaining land in the area of 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

Cresten Capital Holdings is developing the project, known as Prairie Towers, at 200 W. 85th St.

It includes 102 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments split between two buildings.

Cresten’s nearby  Edgewater Villas development has “been very popular,” owner Kevin Tupy said, and its Crimson mixed-use project along 85th west of Minnesota  recently opened for residents.

“Everyone loves the south,” he said.

The Crimson also includes retail space that is drawing interest from everything from service-oriented businesses to pubs, said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos., who has The Crimson and Prairie Towers commercial spaces listed.

“The existing retailers (in the area) have done really well — no complaints,” she said. “There’s really been a lot of activity in that area, including with The Crimson.”

Prairie Towers has less retail space — 5,000 square feet in one of its two buildings– so one tenant could take the entire space, or it could be subdivided.

Apartment residents there will find new outdoor game space between the Prairie Towers buildings and amenities through the existing adjacent Prairies Edge town homes, including an outdoor kitchen and fire pit, pool and playground.

Businesses and residents will be able to move into the first phase sometime this fall.

The property rounds out development on the former Homan family farmland. It includes both the northeast and southwest sides of the intersection. The family has some remaining property, but the infrastructure doesn’t exist for it to be developed yet.
