Move complete: Gage Brothers no longer operating on 12th Street

Aug. 27, 2019

The century-old headquarters is no longer in use for Gage Brothers Concrete Products, which has entirely moved operations to its new northeast Sioux Falls home.

Gage began work in the new space late last year and has been transitioning the operation in stages.

“Watching the last three precast pieces being poured at our old plant on 12th Street was very emotional for me. Almost 40 years of memories flashed through my mind as I stood there,” president Tom Kelley said.

“Not only did I think about all the iconic building projects we created but of the countless relationships that were forged on 12th Street with architects, contractors, developers, engineers and owners — not to mention the hundreds of Gage Brothers team members who walked through that gate over the years.

“I truly am blessed to have played a role in more than 7,000 of the 11,000 building projects that were created on West 12th Street and to have been a part of the lives of our loyal and dedicated employees who brought me personal and professional enjoyment throughout the past 39 years.”

Gage’s new home is a 200,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility at 2800 N. Bahnson Ave.

Kelley said he’s glad to have finished the move.

“It is terrific to finally have all of our production team members working at the new Bahnson site. I’m so grateful to everyone at Gage Brothers for being patient during this long transition,” he said.

“The volume and efficiency in our new facility gain a little more momentum every week.”

Now, redevelopment can move forward for the 30-acre former site on on the east side of Interstate 29.

Gage hopes to start demolition on the property this fall, which Kelley said should help increase interest in the site.

“We have interest from an adjacent property owner in a small portion of the site for future expansion,” said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos., who has the property listed.

“Otherwise, we still envision it as a mix of hospitality, corporate, retail and restaurant space. We just need to keep our options very open.”

Here’s a concept plan that shows how the site could redevelop:
