National Day of Service project collects feminine products

Jan. 12, 2018

Seven Sioux Falls organizations are coming together to collect feminine hygiene products for The Banquet.

It’s part of the National Day of Service on Jan. 15 honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

An event from 4 to 7 p.m. will be held at Prairie Berry East Bank. Donations of maxi pads, tampons and liners will be given to The Banquet, which last year received more than 23,000 individually wrapped items during the fundraiser – the primary supply for an entire year.

“The women who receive these feminine hygiene products are extremely grateful,” said Madeline Shields of The Banquet. “Working people who struggle to put food on the table go without these basic necessities. It’s not uncommon for mothers and daughters to ask for pads and tampons during dinner at The Banquet. Men ask for their wives and girlfriends who had to stay at home because they couldn’t leave the house. This gift is improving the lives of women in Sioux Falls.”

New this year, raffle tickets will be sold for $5 for the chance to win one of 10 mini prints of local artist Shaine Schroeder’s mural “Confetti.”
