New charcuterie business offers boards in downtown shop

Nov. 10, 2022

Guests of the Full Circle Book Co-op can enjoy a charcuterie board with a beer or wine courtesy of a new business.

Katie McNamara has combined her passion for downtown Sioux Falls and her East Coast roots to create Overboard Charcuterie, a custom-order charcuterie board company.

“I’m a busybody and a people-person and always found myself back in a space to serve guests,” McNamara said. “I love cooking, entertaining and hosting.”

She credits years of experience in the restaurant industry and a local support network, which includes Barry Putzke and Jordan Taylor of Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen where she started working after she moved to Sioux Falls.

“When Barry and Jordan opened their catering business, En Place, there was one event early on I recall with a meat and cheese tray,” she explained. “The catering director and I talked about making these trays look a lot nicer, and that’s where it all started.”

Another lightbulb went off when good friend Sion Lidster, owner of the Full Circle Book Co-op, suggested making charcuterie boards in its back kitchen while continuing to create boards for En Place Catering and fulfill her own custom orders.

After COVID, McNamara originally had plans to move back to the East Coast to be closer to family.

“The downtown community is amazing, and that’s part of the reason I have a hard time leaving Sioux Falls,” McNamara said.

She’s here to stay for a while and now runs her business entirely out of the Co-op’s kitchen.

McNamara makes boards for customers of the Co-op, caters events of her own and creates boards for En Place, while also selling disposable trays for parties and other events.

Incorporating her nautical roots into the company’s branding, she wanted to stand out and offer something unique to customers through this new venture.

“I didn’t want to just be a catering business,” she said. “I noticed there’s a high demand for this locally.”
