New co-op blends physical, mental, spiritual healing

Feb. 10, 2021

A new Sioux Falls co-op wants to help people find physical, mental and spiritual healing under one roof.

Selah Space, 117 W. 39th St., has 10 holistic wellness practitioners with specialties including spiritual direction, massage therapy and yoga. It’s also partnered with The Kitchen co-working space.

“The idea is you can come to work here, you can come to heal here, or you can practice here, and your kids can be here the whole time,” founder Jada Dobesh said.

Dobesh, a 25-year-old Rosholt native with a background in spiritual direction, said the vision for Selah Space was born from a desire to have all the pieces of the wellness puzzle put together in one facility. She didn’t want to have to divide her wellness into disparate pieces among a yoga instructor, a spiritual director, a therapist and others all in different corners of town.

Selah Space brings all those services together, and it allows wellness practitioners to collaborate in serving clients. A spiritual director, a Reiki specialist and a yoga instructor may all be working with the same person toward the same wellness goals.

“Yoga doesn’t solve all your problems,” said yoga instructor Sarah Bruxvoort, one of Selah Space’s practitioners. “We need a multifaceted approach to health and well-being.”

Bringing a co-working option to Selah Space just made sense, said Jen Kolb, owner of The Kitchen.

Kolb, who had to shut down The Kitchen in its first location last year amid the pandemic, wanted to continue working with Dobesh in serving people as whole beings and helping them recognize they can bring the different personal and professional pieces of their lives together.

“You can be here working in the midst of healing and healing in the midst of working,” Kolb said.

Members might join Selah Space not knowing exactly what types of healing services they’ll need, Dobesh said, but she’s there to help them figure it out.

Taking risks is part of the experience, said member Maddie Peschong. Selah Space gives members the room to try forms of healing they may not have experienced before such as Reiki, cupping, aromatherapy or singing bowls.

“It does such a good job of addressing you as a whole person as opposed to a business owner or a working mom or a wife,” Peschong said.

Selah Space’s membership is $40 a month with a 25 percent discount on services. But membership is not required to sign up for classes, co-working or wellness services.

“What we’re first and foremost doing is giving you room to dump everything on the floor and sort through what you’ve got,” Dobesh said, “so we can help you to heal and move into more of what you really want your life to look like.”
