New happy hour, event options for downtown wine bar

There’s now a new reason to make it “wine time” every day of the week.

The downtown wine bar across from the Washington Pavilion inside Washington Square has started happy hour every Monday and Thursday.

From 3 to 6 p.m., enjoy 20 percent off all wines by the glass on the regular menu and 30 percent off bottles on the regular menu. That means the discounts apply to more than 160 wines by glass and bottle!

“It’s a great chance to explore wines on the menu at a reduced price,” owner Bob Novak said. “We thought it was a nice way to start the week on Monday, and on Thursday – which is a busy night for us with the after-work crowd – we thought it was a nice way to show our appreciation.”

In between, you’ll still find half-price bottle night on select bottles each Tuesday and “flight night” every Wednesday, featuring four flight options each week.

Sunday option

Wine Time also is changing how it approaches Sunday. The space will be reserved for private events.

“We see that as a fit for a lot of different gatherings,” Novak said.

“Maybe you’re looking for a place to go before or after an event at the Pavilion, or you’re looking for a quiet place with an outstanding selection for a group of friends to catch up or celebrate. The place will be yours, and you’ll have access to the full menu plus our cheese and charcuterie options.”

Upcoming events

The last time we told you about Wine Time’s popular Wine 101 events, the next one sold out right away.

So mark your calendar for Aug. 26, when Wine 101 will feature wines of the Loire Valley in France.

“Wines of the Loire Valley are more light red and bright fruity whites, so they’re great for summer,” Novak said.

Then on Sept. 3, Wine 101 will highlight a new batch of American Viticultural Areas, or AVAs, from Napa Valley.

“They were popular in April, so we’re going to return and do more of those,” Novak said.
