New Mexican restaurant to replace Jacky’s downtown

May 23, 2022

Jacky’s Restaurant won’t reopen its East Eighth Street restaurant, but another Hispanic restaurant will replace it.

T-Juanita Street Food and Cheladas will open soon, according to its Facebook page. The owners have not responded to attempts to reach them.

The building at 702 E. Eighth St. is being painted bright yellow.

Jacky’s announced the change in a Facebook post Saturday.

“We are thankful for this (sic) years of support. This past few years have been difficult times and as the time changes we feel the need to move in to a new adventure. We have the need to inform you that we’ve decided to close down the 702 E. Eighth St. location permanently as Jacky’s Restaurant.

“But don’t worry! We will be more than happy to serve you at our Jacky’s on the east side at 3308 E. 10th St.

“Also we are leaving the way to a new, fast concept opening soon as T-Juanita Street Food and Cheladas.”

Cheladas are the Mexican version of a tomato beer.

Jacky’s also has a location in The Empire Mall and Jacky’s Burrito Express on West 12th Street.

The Eighth Street restaurant closed earlier this year. At the time, Jacky’s said it would be remodeling the space.
