From what he looks for in entrepreneurs to what he wishes he had been told starting out, “Shark Tank” star Daymond John sat down with SiouxFalls.Business owner Jodi Schwan as part of his visit to Sioux Falls.

John spoke to about 1,200 people today at the Sioux Falls Convention Center as the keynote speaker for the annual visitor industry luncheon put on by the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau.

He shared his personal story of growing his clothing business, FUBU, out of his mother’s house while working at Red Lobster and gave what he called his Five Shark Points for Success:

• Set a goal.
• Do your homework.
• Amor — love your business and your family.
• Remember you are the brand.
• Keep swimming — and take care of yourself.

John said every time he has succeeded all those points were present, and when he didn’t, one was missing.
