AIA South Dakota

The American Institute of Architects South Dakota has presented its annual awards.

Champions of Architecture: South Dakota sculptor Dale Lamphere, creator of Dignity and Arc of Dreams, and Albertson Engineering Inc., which has offices in Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Winner.

Legacy Award: Posthumous honor of Jeff Hazard, the longtime CEO and principal of Koch Hazard Architects and a former AIA South Dakota president, who died Aug. 30 at the age of 64.

Young Architect: Sara Lum, a licensed architect who now serves as a planner with the South Eastern Council of Governments.

Honor Award for Architecture: SDSU DoArch, the state’s accredited architecture program, for its design of the Passive House in Brookings, a net-zero-energy, single-family house built to demonstrate sustainable development to the region’s residents, contractors and building officials. The Brookings home was conceived and built using a housing grant from the South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development.

Merit Award for Architecture and People’s Choice Award: JLG Architects of Sioux Falls and Rapid City for Farmhouse Bistro in Spearfish.

Merit Award for Architecture: TSP Inc. of Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Watertown for its interior renovation of Hamre Recital Hall at Augustana University.

Merit Award for Architecture: Co-op Architecture of Sioux Falls, Aberdeen and Rapid City for its design of the Northern State University athletic fields in Aberdeen.

President’s Awards: Allison Dvorak of Avera McKennan for her service as chair of the communication committee; Dakota Resources and its president, Joe Bartmann, for their work in rural areas of the state; and SDSU DoArch’s Passive House for putting theory into practice and demonstrating sustainability.

AIA South Dakota has elected new officers for its board of directors: president, Thomas Hurlbert, Co-op Architecture; vice president, Allison Dvorak, Avera McKennan; and secretary/treasurer: Jeff Nelson, Falls Architecture Studio. New board members are Chase Kramer, TSP Inc.; Justin Oleson, RSArchitects; and Brian Johnson, Architecture Incorporated.

First Premier Bank has promoted Cecily Tucker to vice president, controller. Tucker joined the bank in May 2018.

First Premier Bank has promoted Kory Allen and Rochelle Schmidt to the position of retail area managers. Schmidt has been with the bank for 17 years, and Allen has worked there for 16 years.

Mark Sundvold has been hired as the branch manager of the 41st and Kiwanis location for First Premier Bank. He has almost two decades of professional experience.

 

 

Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire

The Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire has chosen its Award of Excellence winners for the Fall Parade of Homes. Winners in the single-family home categories are McCoy Construction, Tschetter Construction, A-Plus Construction, NRG Homes, Allen Homes, George Custom Homes and BH Construction & Homes. Winners in the twin house, town house and condo categories are Allen Homes and Jarding Construction.

Mud Mile Communications/ADrenaline Sports Marketing

Mud Mile Communications and ADrenaline Sports Marketing have received seven Telly Awards, which recognize the best in television and digital commercials and programs. The agencies won four awards for work with North Dakota State University and awards for projects with Augustana University, Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and South Dakota Synod of the ELCA.
