Avera Health

Thomas Johnson

Thomas Johnson of Avera Health has been installed as president of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Johnson had served as president-elect for ASHP since August 2019. He is the assistant vice president of hospital pharmacy at Avera and has served in multiple roles over his professional career, including clinical practice, academia, research and leadership.

MetaBank

Brett Pharr has been promoted to co-president and chief operating officer of MetaBank. Pharr joined Meta in February 2019, as an executive vice president, group head of governance, risk and compliance. Before joining Meta, Pharr spent over 30 years at Bank of America and three years at Citizens Bank in senior risk management and commercial lending roles. Brad Hanson will continue to lead the company, serving as co-president and CEO of MetaBank and president and CEO of Meta Financial Group. Pharr will report to Hanson.

Anthony Sharett, executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, will expand his role and lead Meta’s risk, compliance, legal, credit administration and government relation functions as chief legal and compliance officer, corporate secretary.

Missouri River Energy Services

Tom Heller

Tom Heller, president and CEO of Missouri River Energy Services, has received the Mark Crisson Leadership and Managerial Excellence Award from the American Public Power Association. For 28 years, Heller has led MRES, which is an organization of 61 member municipalities in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa that own and operate municipal electric utilities. The Sioux Falls-based association provides energy and services to its members.

Severance, Lupulin, Fernson

Three Sioux Falls breweries received recognition at the annual Craft Beer Marketing Awards.

Severance Brewing Co. received a gold Crushie Award for having one of the top four Coolest Taprooms in North America. It’s owned by Scott and Melissa Heckel and Mark and Jennifer Stavenger. Marcus Paulsen of Lupulin Brewing Co. won a platinum Crushie for best packaging design/can for Coffee Shop Assault Vehicle, and  Mitch Torbert of Fernson Brewing Co. received a gold Crushie for best use of retro branding for the Plains Beer Pilsner can design.
