Pet store to open at 69th & Western

By Jodi Schwan

A uniquely designed retail center has its first tenant.

EarthWise Pet Supply plans to open in the building dubbed The Wedge on Western at the southwest corner of 69th Street and Western Avenue.

Scott and Julie Ward are the franchisees for the pet-supply chain, which focuses on pet nutrition and includes grooming and self-service washes.

“The unique design and exterior was a plus for us,” Scott Ward said. “It has an exciting vibe and energy we think our customers – two- and four-legged – will love.”

The business is leasing 2,550 square feet on the southeast end of the building, which includes a separate entrance so owners can drop off pets for grooming on their way to work.

“We spent a significant amount of time selecting a location for our first store and considered several factors: space size and layout, convenience, growth potential, shopping and traffic patterns, and parking,” Ward said.

Build-out is expected to take 10 weeks. The hope is to open EarthWise before the holiday season.

The lease leaves more than 14,000 square feet available in the building.

“We are in discussions with multiple parties for the rest of the building,” said Ron Nelson, owner of Nelson Commercial Real Estate, who has the building listed for lease. “We’ve had significant interest, so we’re working out the details.”
