Photo essay: Valentine’s Day, delivered

Feb. 14, 2018

A photo essay by Jay Pickthorn.

Today marks one dozen Valentine’s Days at The Flower Mill.

Sue Pellman has been here since the beginning.

This is the first year in the new store on East 10th Street.

And this is how this year’s memories start to bloom.

From here, the delivery team drops off bouquets and starts collecting stories.

There’s this one, from grandkids to grandma at Avera.

This one, from a husband to a wife at Poet.

And this one, a surprise delivery from a secret admirer.

It’s a tiring, sometimes stressful day to be in the flower business. But at the end of the route, it’s also hard not to love it.
