It’s not too soon to be thinking New Year’s resolutions when it comes to becoming more active – and we’ve got ways your entire household can be planning for the year ahead.

GreatLIFE’s January Jumpstart program

You know you want to spend more time at the gym next year, but what’s the best way to start?

With a January Jumpstart.

This popular eight-week program is designed to do just what the name suggests – help you jump-start your fitness goals.

“We really enjoy offering this program because we know it gets results,” vice president of fitness Randall Hill said.

“We don’t just want to see you in the gym in January. We want to make sure we’re helping you establish the routine that is going to keep you coming back in February, March and beyond.”

Beginning Jan. 10, for just $25 a week, GreatLIFE members will receive three in-person group workouts with a fitness professional each week.

In addition, January Jumpstart provides:

  • Workout programming you can do on your own.
  • Pre- and post-challenge body scans.
  • Weekly weigh-ins to track your progress.
  • Nutrition education.

“It takes the whole package to realize your lifestyle goals: physical activity, the right mindset, a healthy approach to eating and accountability,” Hill said. “When you commit to this program, we’re committing all those resources to you, and we know it will help get your year off to the right start.”

January Jumpstart also is available to nonmembers for $250.

P.S. It also makes a great Christmas gift – including to yourself!

PLAY Everything camps

January also brings two one-day camps for kids.

As school break winds down, here’s the perfect reason for them to get out of the house: a PLAY Everything basketball camp.

Held Jan. 2 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at GreatLIFE Woodlake, the camp is designed for kids age 8 to 13 and led by Travis Voigt, director of operations and player development for the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

“We’re opening this camp up to as many kids who want to sign up as part of our Christmas-break offerings,” said Tristen Jackson, PLAY Everything coordinator. “This is a great opportunity for them to learn from a pro and burn off some energy.”

Cost is $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers.

Then on Jan. 15, bring the dancer in your household to a camp at GreatLIFE’s 39th and Phillips location from 10 a.m. to noon.

“We did dance last year as a PLAY Everything camp for the first time, so we’re looking forward to growing that this year,” Jackson said. “It will be split between contemporary and ballet and jazz and hip-hop.”

The camp will be led by Ruby Young, a longtime dance instructor at Dance Gallery of South Dakota.

FAAST Sports Performance Camp

Is your student-athlete ready to take his or her performance to a new level in 2022? Sign up for a Fundamentals of Advanced Athletic Sports Training, or FAAST sports performance camp.

These will be held on four Saturdays beginning at 9 a.m. at GreatLIFE Woodlake: Jan. 15, 22, 29 and Feb. 5.

“These camps are designed for kids in seventh through 12th grades,” said Nate Christensen, who is organizing the camps.

“They’ll work on mastering technique through workouts that focus on speed, footwork, change of direction and hand-eye coordination.”

Workouts include cone and hurdle, plyometrics and competitive drills that are initiated through reactive cues.

“These are valuable no matter what your sport, level or athletic goals,” Christensen said. “And they’re a great way to stay active during the winter months.”

The cost is $50 for GreatLIFE members and $75 for nonmembers. Email [email protected] to enroll.
