Ready to toast 2024? Here’s your guide to celebrate the week ahead

Dec. 26, 2023

This paid piece is sponsored by JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars.

Whether you’re thinking bubbly, bourbon or baked goods, JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars is ready for you this holiday week.

There’s a new reason to stop in every last day of 2023:

Tuesday, Dec. 26: The new My Wine Monday

With Christmas falling on a Monday, you get to capitalize today with a new day for My Wine Monday. That means all wine is 30 percent off list price, 35 percent off six bottles and 40 percent off when you buy 24 bottles.

It’s a great time to reload your racks from holiday party season in anticipation of the winter ahead or stock up for celebrations this New Year’s Eve.

Need a little help sourcing your sparkling beverages? The JJ’s experts will be waiting, or you can get started at home with owner Tom Slattery’s most recent blog.

“There’s a rich history to champagne and sparkling wine, and we’ll help you find something for your taste when it’s time for the toast,” Slattery said.

“You can find some outstanding aromas and flavors with the right sparkling beverage.”

Wednesday, Dec. 27: Whiskey Wednesday

This popular weekly JJ’s event isn’t taking time off for the holiday – and if you are, it’s an ideal time to treat yourself to a midweek trip to JJ’s Bar.

“We feature different whiskeys weekly with chances to win the opportunity to purchase some allocated items, and it’s the last Whiskey Wednesday of the year, so we have some fun planned,” Slattery said.

Keep your eye on the JJ’s Facebook page for a preview.

Thursday, Dec. 28: THE Boozy Bakery stop

The bakers in The Boozy Bakery at JJ’s are catching their breath after a busy Christmas week, so look for a freshly stocked case Thursday, Dec. 28. These treats are perfect to serve as you ring in the new year, whether it’s a quiet night at home or you’re entertaining.

“The goods will be available through Sunday, including fun jello shots for New Year’s Eve, so stop in and take a look,” Slattery said.

“Plus, Chef Kaleb is putting together fun food features that will start Thursday and run through the weekend.”

Friday, Dec. 29: Time for a night out

There’s no reason this can’t be New Year’s Weekend, especially with Dec. 31 falling on a Sunday. In addition to the features and full food and beverage menu in JJ’s Bar, JJ’s Axes & Ales is a perfect spot to add a little fun into your Friday and through the weekend.

“If you have guests in town, maybe kids home from college, this is a great venue for some entertainment,” Slattery said. “You can make a reservation or just pop in for drinks, pool and darts.”

Saturday, Dec. 30: Cheer on Augustana hockey

Here’s a hint of what’s ahead in 2024: It’s going to be an extra fun year for JJ’s, Augustana and hockey.

Get the party started early by stopping in JJ’s Bar to watch the Vikings take on Notre Dame. Game time is 4 p.m., so snag your seat early.

“We’re limiting this to 21 and older,” Slattery added. “And plan to stick around for live music after the game.”

Sunday, Dec. 31: A full day of fun

It might be Sunday, but it’s also New Year’s Eve, so JJ’s is making the most of the final day of 2023.

“We will be open starting at 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., with the JJ’s Bar open all day with full service until 8 p.m.,” Slattery said. “The kitchen is usually closed on Sunday, so come enjoy the special day of full service with us, and we’ll have another Augie hockey watch party starting at 4 p.m. This is also limited to those 21 and older.”

Monday, Jan. 1: Retail open, bar closed

Need a last-minute beverage for a New Year’s Day dinner? JJ’s is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., though the bar will be closed.

Regular hours resume Jan. 2, but the kitchen will be closed until Jan. 3.

“The culinary team will be putting in a few extra hours this week, so we wanted to give them a little break before we hit the ground running in 2024,” Slattery said.

“We want to thank our guests for another fantastic year. We’ve got a lot more planned in 2024 and are always grateful for your support of our local, family-owned, mom-and-pop shop!”
