Restaurant Roundup: Falls Overlook Cafe reopening, popcorn treats, new menus

Falls Overlook Cafe by Stensland reopens Friday on the east side of Falls Park. Spring hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For Easter, the café will be open from 9 a.m. to noon for a special brunch. Reservations are required by emailing [email protected] or calling 605-367-4885. Other customers also are welcome to stop in for ice cream and other menu iems, said Leah Moller, a Stensland family owner who manages retail operations and marketing. Sixteen flavors of ice cream from Stensland Family Farms are available in the dipping case, along with a dairy-free option. This year, Falls Overlook has switched from pizzas to flatbreads. “There’s Porky Pesto and other fun ones,” Moller said. They also listened to customer requests for a Reuben and have added their spin as a panini.

Mini bunny and egg popcorn treats are available this year at Poppy’s Popcorn Co. “We haven’t done those for years, but I really wanted to have some for this year,” owner Nathan Bertsch said in a post on social media. The shop at 41st and Spring also has popcorn bunny cakes, colored mini popcorn balls and other festive treats for Easter baskets.

The return of the Downtown Burger Battle winner, the Tuscany Burger, is the highlight of the new menu at Chef Lance’s on Phillips. New appetizers include pesto bread and beef chislic. For lunch, there’s a chicken bacon ranch wrap, pulled pork sandwich and turkey pesto melt. For lunch and dinner, there’s a three-meat lasagna and yellow fin tuna. Other new dinner entrees include steak Oscar, chicken Oscar, seafood capellini and grownup mac-and-cheese with shoulder bacon, lobster and tomatoes.

The kitchen crew at Remedy Brewing Co., also known as Saucy Boyz, has shaken up the menu for spring. They’re Downtown Burger Battle entry, the Queen Bee Burger, has returned with an upgraded wagyu patty from Monument Wagyu of Dimock and pepperjack cheese from Dimock Cheese. Want a vegetarian version? Order it with a black bean patty. Flatbreads have returned to the menu and there are four to choose from: C.B.R., or chicken bacon ranch, Buffalo Chicken Parmesan, Philly and cheese, with a three-cheese blend and marinara. For noshing, try the Remedy Loaded Nachos or the French Onion Beef Dip that comes in a toasted hoagie.

Two new salads and a returning favorite are on the menu at Crisp & Green. Pep in Your Step features roasted chicken and cauliflower, and Shrimply Irresistible features citrus shrimp. You Feta Believe It is back with roasted chicken and strawberries. As always, you can customize those as you wish.

Boss’ Pizzeria & Sports Bar in the Ramada Hotel at Russell and West is featuring daily $10 lunch specials. They’re served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are perfect for those who need to get back to work quickly, owner Jeremy Seefeldt said. Monday is bottomless chili with a cinnamon roll; Tuesday is broasted chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn; Wednesday in roast beef with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans; Thursday is bottomless chicken pot pie soup; and Friday is tater tot casserole and garlic toast.

Boss’ also is giving away $1,000 to the first person who can beat the record time for eating its 28-inch pizza. Molly Schuyler polished off the Boss Hog Challenge in 16 minutes and 30 seconds. The first duo who can complete the challenge is less than 14 minutes and 30 seconds can win $500. Contestants usually have one hour to eat the pizza. The Wooden Nickel in Crooks is hosting its second annual Adult Easter Egg Hunt from 9 p.m. to close Friday. Customers can win prizes, free drinks and appetizers or Easter egg baskets. The bar and grill also is hosting karaoke.

IHOP has created the International Bank of Pancakes, its new rewards program. Every $5 spent at the restaurant earns you 1 PanCoin. A PanCoin is a cryto pancake, and you can trade three for a short stack of three pancakes. Other “assets” are available for trading PanCoins on the “Stack Market.” Rewards members still get free birthday pancakes, exclusive offers and secret menu offerings.

Gist Wine Shop is starting a wine club. The Gist Picks 2 Wine Club will offer two bottles each month. It’s described as “different styles, different regions, never boring wine.” Start with a three-month commitment and then go month to month after that. Changes in hours, service

  • Wingstop has resumed its lunch hours. The restaurant had scaled back hours a few months ago because of staffing. New hours are noon to 10 p.m. daily.
  • Weekend breakfast hours at Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea have been suspended until fall. The restaurant is open for Easter bunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
  • Critters Bar in Crooks will be closed on Sundays because it’s short on staff.
