Dec. 12, 2019

The new Tavern 180 at 69th and Western is giving away a free bottle of wine with the purchase of an appetizer on Tuesdays until Christmas to groups of five or more drinking-age people. The selection includes house bottles of pinot grigio, pinot noir and cabernet.

Check out this ugly sweater cake from Oh My Cupcakes! The arrangement can be made with vanilla or chocolate cupcakes or a combination of the two. They usually can be ready within a day or two. The 36 standard-size cupcake version is $129, and a mini one is $66. The bakery also has pull-apart Christmas trees, wreaths and candy canes.

The Cookie Jar Eatery is testing out Impossible, the replacement meat product, in one of its featured soups this week. Owner Glen Koch said the Impossible Cheeseburger Soup might be gone before Saturday’s lunch.

They’ll be roasted Friday, Dec. 20 and 27 at the shop on Arrowhead Parkway. To ensure availability, order by calling 271-8038. Get a half-pound for $30 or a pound for $60, either ground or whole bean.

WoodGrain Brewing Co. is hosting a crawfish boil Wednesday with chef Omar Thornton of ‘O’ So Good Restaurant in Garretson doing the cooking. Thornton said he has ordered 60 pounds of crawfish from “down south” that will be shipped overnight and picked up the day of the event. The meal is $14 a bowl, with crawfish, sausage, corn-on-the-cob, rice, onion and peppers in a seafood broth. Diners can pay $15 in advance to guarantee their meal. Call the restaurant at 605-594-3600. The meal will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Eighty-five percent of proceeds go to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, which helps find adoptive parents for children in foster care. The nonprofit was created in 1992 by Wendy’s founder, who was adopted as a child.
