Restaurant Roundup: KFC reopens; Crumbl Cookies tweaks menu

Sept. 1, 2022

KFC on Kiwanis Avenue reopened Tuesday after a three-month remodeling project. It has a new look inside and out.

Crumbl Cookies has returned the pink sugar cookie as a staple on the weekly menu, but it’s what the cookie shop calls an improved recipe. With the pink sugar cookie filling a spot on the six-cookie weekly rotating roster, Crumbl is offering a unique seventh flavor on a surprise week each month. To find out what it is, you’ll have to check the app. The mystery cookie flavors will rotate at least every three days or as often as every day.

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews has a football-inspired fall special menu. Choices include totchos, a Meatloaf Melt and Chili Cheese Mac & Cheese. For dessert, try the Apple Pie Nachos – cinnamon-and-sugar tortilla chips topped with apple pie filling, caramel drizzle and whipped cream.

Zoup, which closed in late June for repairs and remodeling, and had hoped to reopen in early August, remains closed. An updated note on the door reads: “To all our fabulous Zoup patrons, we are slowly but surely getting things lined up for reopening the store. We are sorry for the length of the shutdown but stay tuned for a reopening date coming soon.”

Oh My Cupcakes has created a signature cupcake for Country Apple Orchard, which starts its fall season Friday. The new apple cupcake will be available only at the orchard along Highway 115 in Harrisburg. The vanilla bean cupcake has apple pie filling made with the orchard’s apples and streusel baked right in. It’s topped with cream cheese frosting and a salted caramel drizzle. Hours at the orchard are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Calico Skies Winery & Vineyard is offering one last chance to help with the grape harvest this weekend. Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday to help pick La Crescent and Frontenac Gris grapes at the vineyard between Canton and Inwood, Iowa. Helpers get doughnuts in the morning and wood-fired pizza when the work is done. Adults also get a bottle of wine. RSVP to [email protected] or call 712-753-2110.

Seven food trucks are collaborating on a marketing campaign to boost likes on their Facebook pages. A random winner will get the Food Truck Golden Ticket, which is good for $25 worth of food from each truck. People have to like and share the golden ticket video on each truck’s page. Participating trucks are The Big Orange Food Truck, FadeAways, The Hangover Hut, Old Skool Jersey Rippers & Balls, Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mex Catering, Tacos de Gringo and Windy City Bites.

Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse has added a cheesecake cocktail flight to its Sunday-only offerings. Mimosa and bloody mary flights are available too. Hours are noon to 8 p.m.

Renner Equipment on the northwest corner of the Renner/Crooks exit on Interstate 29 is hosting food trucks once a week this month. Here’s the lineup.

Kingbird Coffee in Brandon will start hosting tea parties for kids age 3-5. The first one is Sept. 13, and the deadline for reservations is Sept. 7. The price is $10 per child accompanied by an adult.

Wednesday night is the final Bike Night for the season at Red Rock Bar & Grill in Rowena. Maiden Dixie will play from 6 to 10 p.m., and a winner will be drawn for the 2022 Indian Chief motorcycle, with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota.
